Large image files are the number one cause of slow-loading websites. A slow website leads to a poor user experience, higher bounce rates, and can even hurt your search engine rankings. Image compression is the process of reducing the file size of your images as much as possible without significantly sacrificing visual quality.
Our tool uses a technique called "lossy" compression. It intelligently removes unnecessary data from the image file. By adjusting the "Quality" slider, you can control the trade-off between file size and image quality. A lower quality setting will result in a much smaller file, but you may start to see some visual artifacts. A higher quality setting preserves more detail but results in a larger file. The key is to find the sweet spot where the file size is small, but the image still looks great to the human eye.
your image using the Upload Image field — supports PNG, JPEG, and WEBP.
the Quality Slider — drag it between 1-100%. Start around 75-85% for a good balance of quality and file size.
your preferred Output Format — JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics, or WEBP for best compression.
the result in real-time as you adjust the slider, then download the compressed image.
— this range typically produces files 50-70% smaller with virtually no visible quality loss.
— gradually reduce quality until you notice artifacts, then increase by 5%. This finds your optimal compression point.
— WEBP at the same quality level as JPEG produces smaller files with better visual quality.
— running an image through compression multiple times compounds quality loss. Always start from the original.
— photos compress extremely well in JPEG. PNG photos often have 5-10x larger file sizes.
— screenshots, logos, and images with sharp text look better in PNG because JPEG creates visible artifacts around text.
— your images never leave your device, ensuring complete privacy and security.
